Torbjörn Bäckström |
MD, PhD, co-founder and CEO of Umecrine AB, is currently professor at the Department of Clinical Science, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Umeå University. He is also head of the Umeå Neurosteroid Research Center. Professor Bäckström's main focus of research since 1972 is the effect of sex and stress hormones on the brain and conditions induced by these hormones, he has more than 400 scientific publications within this area and he is a frequently invited key-note speaker at scientific meetings around the world. |

In 1998, he then moved to the investment world, first at Caisse des Dépôts (CDC Innovation, then within the PharmaVent project), before moving to AGF Private Equity, where he supervised the healthcare investment team. |

Dr. Munoz is cardiologist and anaesthesiologist by training and he has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry at high executive level, starting 1980 as VP of R&D with the Sanofi Group. In 1990, he joined the private French Pharmaceutical company Fournier, as VP of R&D and Business Development, subsequently becoming the Senior VP of the Pharmaceutical Division. Under his leadership, numerous NDA's were obtained world-wide, generating significant sales (e.g. Cordarone®, Plavix®, Lipanthyl®/Tricor™, Esclim®). He currently acts as entrepreneur developing his own projects and is a board member of several biotechnology companies. |
