Umecrine Cognition AB is developing pharmaceuticals against the progression of Alzheimer’s disease based on modulation of the processes inducing memory and learning disturbances and development of dementia that are caused by endogenous CNS-active steroids (GABA-steroids). The company’s new therapy is aimed at the mild Alzheimer’s disease segment, which is becoming a significant and increasing problem due to an aging population. The current lack of disease-modifying treatments presents a huge potential market for a new efficacious therapy.
